IRIS is a 3D and 2D film for Vajillas Corona, made for the tableware collection that closed the 60th anniversary gala of the MAMBO museum in Bogota.
A painting, then a plate
Vajillas Corona and Colombian visual artist Jessica Sofía Mitrani built IRIS from her painting Soñé que el paisaje me miraba, and Nea Studio animated the collection. Stacked white porcelain with gold trim and a green palm leaf pattern on a neutral background. The camera moves close enough to read the gold on a rim and the leaf running across the curve of a bowl. Small plates and medium plates animate in sequence, each piece turning so the pattern reads as one continuous landscape instead of a print applied to a surface. A making of pass carries the same render through its build.
Why the table was the canvas
The campaign was called Dress Your Table with Art. A museum jubilee usually ends on a wall. This one ended on porcelain, and the film had to make an object read like the painting it came from.
